Web design
The word is sometimes misused, and it could be confused with graphic creation. But Web-design is not only a visual or an artistic picture. Indeed, it also has to include Creation, Marketing and technical constraints. Web-design refers to the conception of Web-interface with:
- the interactive architecture,
- the organization of pages,
- the tree structure (menu, horizontal/vertical, top/bottom, right/left)
- Web-design also designates how to browse on the Website
The conception of a Web-design includes specific constraints of the internet support in terms of ergonomics, usage and accessibility.
Web-design requires a large range of skills in programming (HTML, CSS, and JavaScript), in ergonomics and in interactivity. It also calls for the respect of the W3C‘s recommendations, including accessibility and portability (cf. referencing). The design of a Website appears through the functional layout and technical specifications. Then, theses are changed in coded lines and pictures, thanks to the graphic layout, in order to be displayed in a browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari…). This phase in the conception of a Website is major to make it visible by the surfers and by the robots to permit lots of referencing. Moreover, your Website must be correctly interpreted by the different existing browsers, and platforms (Mac, PC, Portable, PDA, Smartphone, Iphone…).
